ECU student held on military desertion charge

GREENVILLE, NC (AP) -- An East Carolina University student is in custody after authorities discovered he was wanted on a federal warrant for deserting the military.

The Daily Reflector of Greenville reports 27-year-old Adam Patrick Johnson is charged with felony military desertion. He had been sought since October 2009 on a warrant from Kentucky.

An arrest report says two ECU police officers patrolling a greenway late Wednesday night saw a man and woman. The officers asked for identification and found there was a warrant out for Johnson.

A school spokeswoman says the woman was escorted back to her residence hall after it was determined she had done nothing wrong,

Johnson was jailed at the Pitt County Detention Center before being taken to Fort Bragg. It's not known if he has an attorney.
