NC man accused of shooting at a police officer

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) - Salisbury police have charged a man who they say fired shots at a patrol car in March.

Authorities say 35-year-old Antoine Alfonzo Holmes faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.

In March, a police sergeant turned his patrol car around after spotting a suspicious vehicle and was trying to catch up with it when a man stepped into the roadway and shot at his police car from behind. No one was hurt.

Holmes also faces drug charges after police say he had of marijuana and Ecstasy in his possession when he was arrested Thursday. He's jailed under $30,000 bond, and it's not known whether he has an attorney.

Holmes' mother, 53-year-old Joyce Holmes, was also arrested and charged with misdemeanor harboring a fugitive.
