BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Edward Pruden has been named the 2013-2014 Southeast Regional Superintendent of the Year. The honor is voted on by the 14 public school superintendents that comprise the Southeast Region Superintendents' Council.

"I am so proud of Dr. Pruden," Brunswick County Board of Education Chairman Charlie Miller said in a news release. "This honor represents the hard work and dedication he has not only to our students and staff in Brunswick County, but for public education in North Carolina. We are so fortunate he is our superintendent."

All regional superintendents of the year will compete at the state level for the honor of North Carolina Superintendent of the Year. The winner will be announced in November.

The North Carolina Superintendent of the Year program is part of the National Superintendent of the Year Award Program sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators. Candidates are judged based on their leadership for learning, communication skills, professionalism and community involvement.
