'Dollars for Daisy' yard, bake sale to support crash victim's recovery

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Friends and neighbors of a 9-year-old girl who was struck by a car while riding her bike in Wilmington are hosting a benefit to support the victim's recovery in Chapel Hill.

Daisy Hearn was hit by a vehicle on April 24, at the intersection of St. Andrews Drive and 17th Street, just 3 days shy of her ninth birthday.

Daisy suffered serious injuries in the crash, and friends say she is now recovering at the North Carolina Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill with her mother and grandparents.

With expensive medical bills piling up, and Daisy's mother out of work to be by her side, a community in Bladen County is coming together to help the family during the difficult time.

Friends and neighbors in the Kelly Community are hosting a benefit Saturday to assist Daisy's family with the extraordinary expenses stemming from the accident.

A yard and bake sale, "Dollars for Daisy," will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Centerville Baptist Church on Highway 53 in Kelly.

Organizers encourage the community to join in the community support effort.
