STORMTRACK 3: Heavy thunderstorms prompt flood warning

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- An approaching front is tapping into a moist, unstable environment to produce widespread thunderstorms in southeastern NC through tonight.

Earlier in the day, a Flood Warning was issued for Pender County, with additional flood advisories scattered throughout North and South Carolina. Rainfall totals in excess of 3 to 4 inches are possible in the warned areas, and most of our viewing area will see measurable rain. While a few short-term flooding problems are possible, many counties needed the rain.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning may accompany some storms, so a few power outages are possible. The front should move offshore by Tuesday afternoon.

Follow any additional warnings on Facebook and Twitter/WWAYWeather.
