New Hanover Commissioners approve incentives for GE Aviation

By Ashley Withers

WILMINGTON, NC ( -- The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a proposal to give General Electric Aviation more than $800,000 in incentives Monday night.

The county will give GE Aviation $175,000 per year for five years, in exchange for the plant putting money back into the community. This plan requires GE to invest at least $63 million in real and personal property at the New Hanover County plant and add at least 35 new jobs at the same facility.

The incentive money will come from the county's general fund and be included in the upcoming budget.
