House move to slow traffic Wednesday and Thursday at Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Moving a house at Wrightsville Beach will mean traffic delays Wednesday and Thursday.

The Palmgren-O'Quinn House will be moved to a site near the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History and the town's visitors' center to become the new southeastern regional office of the NC Coastal Federation, as well as the group's new environmental education center, according to the StarNews.

Crews will use a barge to move the house along the Intracoastal Waterway. That means the bridge will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday for longer than usual so the barge can get through.

Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, the home is scheduled to travel west along a short stretch of US 74 beginning at Pelican Drive and ending at W. Salisbury St. While the move is taking place, the structure will occupy both travel lanes of US 74.

Wrightsville Beach Police will be on site to stop traffic and escort the house along US 74.
