BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Bladen County man is dead after being hit and killed as he tried to cross a New Jersey highway. Family members tell WWAY the victim is Charles Robert Shaw. A New Jersey newspaper reports the 50-year-old was hit and killed around 10:30 p.m. Saturday as he tried to walk across Route 37 in Toms River, NJ, which is north of Atlantic City. Police say Shaw is the sixth person killed in five accidents along the road this year, including the third pedestrian, according to the Asbury Park Press. Investigators told the newspaper Shaw was staying at a nearby motel.
