Police searching for driver in hit and run

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) -- Police are searching for the driver who struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.

Two pedestrians were walking along N. New River Drive near the intersection of 4th Street, when a vehicle swerved and hit one of the pedestrians. The driver then fled north bound to Topsail Beach.

The victim is a 48-year-old white male and was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital for his injuries.

According to Lieutenant Jeff Johnson, the make of the suspect's vehicle is a Toyota Camry and year of the vehicle is estimated to be anywhere from 1995-2000. The color is either a dark grey or black color. The front right of the vehicle will be damaged, with a missing passenger side mirror and the possibility of a broken windshield.

Surf City Police are asking for anyone with information to call 910-328-7711.
