Independence Day celebration underway at Carolina Beach, fireworks tonight

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- You won't have to wait much longer for fireworks at Carolina Beach, where the Independence Day festivities have already begun.

At the Hamlet Ave. Beach Access, professional sand sculptors have been hard at work since 10 a.m. working on a huge sand castle.

They also worked hands-on with kids on the beach to have a little fun in the sun.

"We've traveled all over the world," sculptor Kirk Rademaker said. "We've worked with big companies, been to France, Turkey, New Zealand, Thailand. You name it, we've been there. We've built sand castles on some of the most exotic beaches in the world. I will tell you this is a great vibe out here. This place is a lot of fun."

After you're done seeing their giant sand castles, you can swing by the Boardwalk, where there will be the band Machine Gun starts playing at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.
