WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County Fire Rescue honored a 10-year-old hometown hero today. Carson Lewis and his five-year-old sister Hailee were swimming in a neighbor's pool last month when he noticed she had slipped out of her tube and sank to the bottom of the pool. Carson says he was surprised when a fire truck arrived at his house today to pick him up. And as he recounts the horrific story he says he would do it all over again if he had to save his sister. "I was playing with my friends and his mother and when we couldn't find her she was floating in her ring and she slipped out of it, and I dived in and got her out and put her on the side of the pool," Carson said. There was an adult at the pool with carson and his sister, but she says she turned her back for just a second to tend to another child. Fire Chief Donnie Hall says within the past three weeks New Hanover County has had two reports of children nearly drowning in pools. He says children should have constant supervision at all time when in or around swimming pools.
