CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (AP) -- Members of the Marine Corps Combat Logistics Battalion 24 are training to support civilian authorities in the event of a state or national emergency.
Marine Corps spokesman 1st Lt. James Stenger says the battalion traveled from Camp Lejeune to work with units in Norfolk, VA, and practice loading logistical supplies aboard Navy ships. The training lasts through Saturday.
Stenger says the battalion is the lead unit responsible for planning, manning and equipping the mission. The training is geared toward improving their response time in the event of a crisis.
The Pentagon has pledged to provide assistance to local civilian authorities in emergency situations and this training is meant to prepare for such an event.
