WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Firefighters are kicking off their boots this weekend, but they're still working hard.
From 8 a.m. till 8 p.m now through Sunday, they are asking you to fill their boots with donations.
It's an annual tradition to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It's a cause personally meaningful to one firefighter.
"I actually had a family member that passed away from ALS, which is a form of muscular dystrophy," New Hanover Co. Fire Rescue Lt. Benjamin Bobzien said. "It's close to my heart, and I feel that it's a great cause that I want to support, and I feel that our firefighters can support."
Last year New Hanover County firefighters raised more than $51,000.
You can also contribute to the fight against muscular dystrophy during the MDA Telethon Sunday from 9 to 11 p.m. right here on WWAY NewsChannel 3.
