The Cape Fear River Steamers
The Steamer A. P. HURT (sternwheeler) ran for over 60 years on the Cape Fear river, and eventually sank at her dock on the Wilmington waterfront. She now lies in about 18 feet of water beneath where the HENRIETTA is docked.
The Steamer CITY OF WILMINGTON, was a screw vessel, that ran between Wilmington, Smithville (Southport) and the Beaches (Carolina) starting about 1890. After about 40 years, she was gutted (1926 | 1930) and became an automobile ferry running on Tampa Bay, and later a fishing excursion boat until about 1965.
