Class focuses on proper car seat use for special needs kids

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County Fire Rescue helped sponsor a training class for transporting children with special health needs.

The class taught technicians who work with families how to use car seats correctly.

Organizers say North Carolina ranks higher than the national average for kids with special needs, which makes these classes important.

"I see what happens on a daily basis when kids are not properly restrained or not restrained at all, so it's important for parents to not just improvise, or not just think they know how to put the car seat in," instructor Theresa Cromling said.

Cromling says 75 percent of all car seats are used incorrectly.
