New Hanover County to hold surplus auction

WILMINGTON -- Bargain shoppers, this story's for you. New Hanover County is holding its annual surplus auction Saturday. The government will be auctioning off used office equipment to make room for updated hardware. Everything from printers, laptops and filing cabinets will be on sale. Some of the big ticket items expected to draw a crowd are the 50 cars ready to be sold. Last year the auction brought in nearly $19,000, which is put toward the county's budget. Lena Butler with the New Hanover County Finance Department said, "It's a big community event, one of those that people are just waiting to come out and get a bargain, and get something they can use." Doors will open so you can preview the items at 8 a.m., the auction will begin at 9 a.m.
