Three men charged with Thursday bank robbery


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police have arrested three men suspected of robbing a bank yesterday morning.

Robert Houston Ward, 39, of Leland, Warnie Dean Jones, Jr., 35, of Currie, and Brandice Charles Ward, 38, of Wilmington are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the robbery of the PNC Bank at 2015 S. 17th Street around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Police say while the robbers did not show a weapon, they threatened to use one. They left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

"The department received approximately 12 calls after surveillance photos were released to the public," WPD Capt. Jeff Allsbrook said in a news release. "This case serves as an example of how effective we can be with the help of the community. This case was solved in 24 hours."
