WPD: Golden Corral robbed at gunpoint, employees forced into cooler

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are investigating after they say three men robbed a Wilmington Golden Corral at gunpoint late Monday night.

It happened just before 11 p.m. when a manager told police he was leaving the restaurant at 5130 New Center Drive with two other employees.

That's when they say three masked men with handguns forced the employees back inside. Police say the men were wearing bandannas over their faces, and all had on dark clothing.

The restaurant manager told police one of the robbers then forced him into the office and asked him to open the safe there. Police say the other two suspects put the other employees in the cooler.

Police say before they took off, the trio stole the manager's cell phone, and got away on foot. No word on how much cash they got away with.
