WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- The name of longtime Wilmington leader Windell Daniels will have a permanent place inside of Union Station, CFCC's newest and largest classroom building.

CFCC trustees voted to honor Daniels for his years of support for the college by officially naming the top floor conference room "Windell Daniels Hall," in honor of his generous support of the college through the CFCC Foundation.

Daniels passed away in 2008 and was well known throughout the area as a respected community leader and businessman.

CFCC President Dr. Ted D. Spring stated that he was pleased the board's decision and stated that Daniels was very deserving of the honor, which is the first naming opportunity to be approved in the new facility.

"Mr. Daniels made a tremendous positive impact on the lives of CFCC students and on local residents throughout the area," Dr. Spring said.

Wilma Daniels, was present at the Sept. 26 meeting for the announcement and said that her husband would be honored and humbled to have his name so prominently recognized by the college.

Mr. Daniels attended Cape Fear Community College, where he earned an associate's degree in 1980 before going into business. He retired from Koch Fuel in 1985, after serving 19 years as plant manager. Following his retirement, he founded United National Tours and Daniels Development Company.

He served on a wide variety of boards, including the CFCC Foundation Board, New Hanover County Chamber of Commerce, the Wilmington Housing Authority and the UNCW Board of Trustees.

He was also appointed as the co-chairman of the 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.

Daniels was a US Marine and served in Vietnam.

CFCC's Union Station building is located at the corner of Front and Red Cross streets in downtown Wilmington and houses 250,000 square feet of classrooms, labs, student support offices and conference space.

The CFCC Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization that exists solely to support the students, teachers, programs and mission of Cape Fear Community College.
