Hampstead expects 90 percent voter turnout

Some big changes could be in store for residents of Pender County. Tuesday is Election Day and there is plenty of controversy over some of the items on the ballot. In Hampstead elections officials are expecting voter turnout to be as high as 90 percent. That's because Hampstead incorporation is up for a vote. People were lined up before the polls even opened this morning at the Hampstead community building. The precinct judge of the Hampstead community building says the record number of voters shouldn't be a problem because lower and upper topsail has been divided into three precincts, which means fewer voters are registered for the Hampstead community building. Also if voters are unsure if they live in the Hampstead footprint they can still vote on incorporation with a paper ballot, then the board of elections will determined if that's counted.
