High school student uses fashion passion to help women

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- If you dress for success, you're more likely to succeed.

One Hoggard High School student helped women do that Wednesday night. Alicia MacDonald organized a fashion show in Wilmington. It was for "Dress for Success." It's an organization that helps women who are down on their luck find nice clothes and learn interview skills so they can land a job that will launch them into their future.

MacDonald, who wants to be a personal stylist when she grows up, said she's so happy she can use her passion to help others. The added bonus was the event also served as her senior project.

"We had to do one thing to help the community for our senior project and I thought why not go big and do something that helps a multitude of people," MacDonald said.

At the event last night, they raised about $850.

MacDonald said now that she's done with the event, she wants to work on opening a Wilmington chapter of Dress for Success.
