WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are investigating after they say a man who was stabbed several times in the stomach showed up at the hospital last night.
Lt. Obbie Blanton with the Wilmington Police Department says they got the call just after 8:30 last night. He says witnesses told police the stabbing victim was walking down Bell Street near Carolina Beach road when an acquaintance spotted him stumbling.
Lt. Blanton says the friend dropped the man off at the hospital, where he was taken to the operating room in critical condition. He says hospital staff told him if he made it out of the OR, the victim would be put into the intensive care unit.
Police say they interviewed witnesses, but say they couldn't find a crime scene in the area where the man was spotted. There's no word yet on the man's condition, or any evidence that would lead police to a suspect in the crime.
