WASHINGTON, DC (WWAY) -- Singer Clay Aiken is reportedly considering running for one of North Carolina seat's in the US House of Representatives.
The Washington Blade, which describes itself as "America's Leading Gay News Source," cites sources who say the one-time "American Idol" runner-up is considering a run for the 2nd Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Renee Ellmers.
The sources said the 35-year-old Raleigh native has consulted with political operatives in Washington, including the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and has met with figures in Raleigh.
Ellmers is a conservative Republican. Aiken has been active in LGBT issues.
