LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- Maintenance work on Brunswick County railroad track is causing some big headaches for neighbors as they try to go about their daily routine.
"Today it was like, 'What's going on here?'" said Ronn Pifer, who lives nearby.
Railroad maintenance that shut down part of Mt. Misery Road near Leland came as a surprise to folks who live and work nearby.
"It was open on Friday," Pifer said.
CSX crews began monday conducting routine, planned maintenance. A CSX representative says crews will replace cross ties and resurface the crossings as needed.
Pifer says because of the closure he was late for work today. He says when he asked crew how to get around the work zone they told him they did not know.
"I have no other way of getting there that I know of," Pifer said. "I guess I could look at a map. I just pulled up, and there was no signage really coming through Leland."
In an e-mail to WWAY a CSX spokeswoman said: "The company understands this work can impact the communities in which we operate, and we will make every effort to move through the region as safely and swiftly as possible."
CSX says if everything goes as planned the work should be done by midweek.
