WILMINGTON, NC (CFCC) -- For the second straight game, the Cape Fear Community College men’s basketball team posted over 100 points as the Sea Devils cruised to victory in a 101-59 MLK matinee at the Schwartz Center on Monday afternoon. “I thought we finally played for 40 minutes,” said CFCC Coach Ryan Mantlo. “We are starting to buy into the things that will make us successful and we are getting better because of that. We have a great road trip this weekend as we continue to make a push for a championship.”

Four different Sea Devils recorded double digits in the victory. Osandai Vaughn led the way with 21 points and Anthony Vanhook added 19, while JT Murphy and DeMarcus Sanford combined for 29 points.

Cape Fear (1-1, 9-10) looks to get back to the .500 mark with two games road games coming up later this week. The Sea Devils travel to Wake Tech for 7 p.m. on Friday, and return to floor Saturday for a 3 p.m. matinee at Central Carolina.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (AP) - Malcolm Brogdon and Joe Harris each scored 16 points as Virginia sent North Carolina to another Atlantic Coast Conference loss, 76-61 Monday night.

The Cavaliers (14-5, 5-1) opened a 15-point lead early in the second half. Justin Anderson had 13 points as Virginia extended its best start in league play since the 1982-83 team also opened 5-1.

Kennedy Meeks scored 15 points and James Michael McAdoo had 11 for North Carolina (11-7, 1-4). The Tar Heels avoided the first 0-4 ACC start in team history by beating Boston College in their last game, but trailed almost throughout against the Cavaliers.

RALEIGH, NC (AP) - Ralston Turner matched his career-high with 23 points, helping North Carolina State rally to beat Maryland 65-56 on Monday despite playing without Atlantic Coast Conference leading scorer T.J. Warren.

Desmond Lee added 14 points for the Wolfpack (12-7, 2-4 ACC), who rallied from 11 down early in the second half to snap a three-game losing streak. N.C. State shot 57 percent after halftime, with Turner scoring 19 points and knocking down all five of his 3-pointers in the second half.

Turner was making his first start in two months with Warren sidelined due to a sprained left ankle suffered late in Saturday's 35-point loss at Duke. Warren was averaging 22 points per game, but Turner and his Wolfpack teammates responded to the challenge against the Terrapins (11-8, 3-3).

Dez Wells and Evan Smotrycz each scored 10 for Maryland, which shot 31 percent for the game.
