Gov. McCrory spent much of the afternoon touring the port and even operated one of the cranes.

McCrory says he is looking for ways to continue to improve on the success that the port has already seen. He says he wants to build on the infrastructure of the port and increase the number of exports and imports.

"I think that is the pathway to success in growing this port and also the Morehead Port,” McCrory said. “We need to look for the niche areas that are competitive and fit are needs in this state and this region."

McCrory says the future for the port his bright and that he is looking for niche products that will compete against the much larger ports. He says he wants to continue to build on recent successes at the port.

“We are very pleased with the recent deal we made on refrigeration,” McCrory said. “We're working closely on the wood pellet industry and increasing the amount of exports coming out of this port."

McCrory says he is looking to improve the facilities at the port so they can improve the quality of service.
