Teen charged in January murder

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Investigators at the Wilmington Police Department believe they have solved a two-week-old murder case, and the suspect they have arrested might surprise you.

When 18-year-old Raequan Rouse was killed in January family members said the person who pulled the trigger was a fellow blood who had turned against him.

A WPD spokeswoman could not confirm that 16-year-old Dominique Olivia Gibbs of Wilmington is a certified gang member, but she could confirm that Gibbs has been charged with first degree murder, first degree attempted murder, and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling in connection with Rouse’s death.

Rouse was shot twelve times while in the 600 block of N. 10th Street and then dropped off at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Despite the high volume of shots investigators could not say whether Gibbs was the lone gunman since the case is still open.

Gibbs turned down our request for an interview on this story and is currently in the New Hanover County Jail with no bond.
