WPD: Gang members, brothers targeted in Thursday shootings

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police say two brothers who are part of a gang were the targets of separate shootings yesterday in Wilmington.

Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley says just before 4 p.m., an officer saw a crowd running in front of D&U Chicken on Love Alley. As he circled back, the officer said gunfire erupted. As he turned onto Love Alley he saw a man running toward him. Two other men turned around and ran the other way through a yard and got away.

The victim, who police say was William Point, told them he'd been jumped and shot at as he came out of the restaurant. He said he could not describe the two men who attacked him, but that they had gotten out of a gold, four-door car.

Police later found a handgun in the bushes in front of 601 Swann St. that was reported stolen from Carolina Beach.

Around 7:30 p.m., police say Point's brother Joseph was shot in the buttocks. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 800 block of Hanover St. and found out Joseph Point was on his way to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Officers did not find any shell casings, but they did find a 9 mm pistol at 910 Hanover St.

WPD's Gang Unit says both Points are validated gang members, according to Rawley.
