ONLY ON 3: 'Secrets & Lies' director gets tips from WWAY as crews prep neighborhood for shoot

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- "Secrets & Lies" is ready to start shooting its pilot episode next week here in Hollywood East.

Meanwhile crews are busy transforming one New Hanover County neighborhood for the show.

Folks in the Sagewood community off US 17 in the northern part of the county are slowly watching their neighborhood be overtaken by "Secrets & lies," and they're OK with it.

"We're gonna watch. We're gonna be out in the yard hoping the little one will be quiet and watching all the excitement," Sagewood resident LouAnne Boatwright said.

This is not the first time Sagewood residents have welcomed Hollywood East into their neighborhood. "Eastbound & Down" shot here just a few months ago.

"First time was up the street, but having it down on this end is pretty exciting," Boatwright said.

The "Secrets & Lies" crew says they're building an entire pool house set in one backyard. The pilot is set around Christmas, so crews are decorating with wreaths and lights.

"Every day there's something different going on," Boatwright said.

This week crews started painting dormant lawns to look bright green. It will help with continuity if they come back to film this summer when the natural color returns.

Charles McDougall will direct the pilot. He came by WWAY this morning for some technical advice on the news business, which will be part of the show. McDougall says he picked "Secrets & Lies" because its script really stood out to him. He hopes ABC will pick up the murder mystery for its full 10-episode order, which he says includes a great, but justified, plot twist.

"Secrets & Lies," starring Ryan Phillippe, KaDee Strickland, Juliette Lewis and Natalie Martinez, starts shooting Feb. 28.
