WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover High School had metal detectors in place inside Brogden Hall for last night's basketball game.

The new security comes after a 15-year-old brought a gun and drugs to Monday night's Wildcats basketball game there. Deputies say they found a pistol and heroin on the teen, who is a suspected gang member.

It was when deputies began questioning the teen about a stolen cell phone that they found both the weapon and drugs on him, along with the phone. He is facing charges for having both the gun and heroin on school grounds, but was not charged for stealing the phone.
