NC community colleges launch new initiative

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Members of the NC Community College System are touring different cities and colleges for the next several months to kick off a new initiative.

NCReady4Work is an effort to improve community college education across the state.

Earlier today they stopped at Cape Fear Community College to meet with educators and workforce leaders. The overall goal was to listen to the wants of both employers and educators.

"Our average age of our student is 28 years old, and so we're putting people to work and bringing people in and retraining them for new jobs," CFCC President Dr. Ted Spring said.

Dr. R. Scott Ralls, President of NC Community College System, said the important part of touring the different ares of the state is to learn what community colleges need on a local level. Each community college feeds a local workforce.
