CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- A sea of green crashed on to Carolina Beach for the 10th annual Steve Haydu St. Patrick's Day Lo Tide Run.
Folks got together for the 5k and 10k run benefiting local cancer patients.
The event in was created in 2005 by Tim Reilly after his dear friend, Steve Haydu was diagnosed with cancer.
He wanted to create an event to aid young people who were uninsured and fighting cancer.
Tim passed away in 2006 but the event remains a St. Patrick's Day tradition.
His brother Daniel Reilly comes to the event every year.
"This is the combination of things. It's the fun, but you know there's also something important behind it." Daniel said, "That's all that really matters. It's enjoyment but it's also something important you can do for your neighbors."
After the race, the party continued with live music and raffles at the Lazy Pirate.
Thousands attended this year's run, celebrating St. Patrick's Day while raising money for a good cause.
