Man who was robbed; arrested on warrant for outstanding DWI

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington man who was assaulted and robbed at Greenfield Lake Park Monday is now behind bars after police say he was wanted for an outstanding DWI charge.

Just after 10:30 p.m., officers got a call to 2010 Fall Drive in Osprey Landing Apartments about an assault. When police talked to the victim, they said he told them he was sitting in the park near his apartment when he was approached by three men.

That's when, the man told officers, the trio began beating him. They then stole his cell phone and wallet with his wife's bank card inside. When police checked the man's name, they discovered that he was wanted on a warrant.

Police then arrested the victim, Michael Jirak, 37, for a previous failure to appear for an outstanding DWI charge. He is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $100 secured bond.
