WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Sheriffs from all over the state met in Wrightsville Beach this morning for the Sheriff's Association's Spring Conference. Attorney General Roy Cooper spoke to hundreds of law enforcement officers about the need for more resources, like improving and expanding the state's crime lab. Cooper says though an avalanche of evidence is backing up the system regional expansion is on the horizon. "We're working," Cooper said. "We're looking at outsourcing to private companies. We're going to try everything to make sure that we get the evidence back to the locals as quickly as possible." Cooper says planning money has already been approved for the Western Crime Lab in the works. He says this expansion will take pressure off of everyone across the state.
