CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (AP) -- Camp Lejeune Marines will hold a four-day exercise to test the base's ability to respond to a crisis while working with various groups.

Exercise Urgent Response begins Tuesday and concludes Thursday with the scenario of an active shooter at a tenant command promotion ceremony. The exercise also will include special reaction team hostage negotiation scenarios involving first responders, law enforcement and base officials.

The scenarios will include working with the Naval Criminal Investigative Services' Carolinas Field Office, Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, and several tenant commands, including a large portion of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.

The base conducts a similar emergency response drill annually to help to identify gaps in current all-hazards response plans, resource shortfalls and to demonstrate the importance of mutual aid agreements with the community.
