CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- A call center in Charlotte is closing next month in a move that will eliminate 239 jobs. The Charlotte Observer reported that APAC Customer Services has filed documents with the State commerce Department on the closure. The Bannockburn, Ill., outsourcing company said it will close in Charlotte on May 9. APAC says 15 full-time workers and 224 temporary employees will be losing their jobs. Company officials would not talk about the filing with the Commerce Department, which is required of businesses implementing large layoffs. No reason was given for the shutdown. The company said employees were given a 60-day notice. APAC had said last year it planned to hire hundreds of workers in Charlotte.
