UPDATE: Driver who crashed into pedestrian, parked cars charged

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A driver who lost control, crashing into two parked cars and a pedestrian on downtown's Front Street Friday night is charged with DWI and reckless driving.

Police say it all started when a black car speeding down busy S. Front Street crossed over the center double, yellow lines, swerved and then over-corrected. An officer with WPD says the man lost control when swerving to avoid a taxi.

That's when police say he collided with two parked cars before one of them was pushed forward into a parking meter, causing it to break off. Officers say the driver also hit a pedestrian walking on the same sidewalk where the parked cars were sitting, just inches away from the Old Antiques of Wilmington shop.

The driver, Anthony Ricardo Fields, Jr., of Delco, was transported to the hospital, along with his passenger and pedestrian. He is charged with DWI and careless and reckless driving.
