AAA: holiday travelers pay 88 cents more per gallon than in '06

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- More than 1.5 million travelers from North Carolina and South Carolina are expected to take car trips over the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA Carolinas estimates that about 163,000 passengers will travel from North Carolina and 79,600 from South Carolina. The auto club says the number of people traveling is a 2 percent increase over the record numbers of 2006, but those traveling this year will pay higher gas prices. On average, motorists will pay an average 88 cents a gallon more than for gas last year. AAA also says airfares are down about 7 percent. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press.
