ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) -- A Bladen County woman is now serving time for her role in a house fire that killed a woman and her 12-year-old daughter in 2011. Belinda Brown pled guilty to second degree murder. Prosecutor Lee Bollinger says Brown, Marcia White, and White's daughter Yolanda, all lived together and were about to be foreclosed on when the fire happened. Prosecutors originally charged Brown with two counts of first degree murder and arson, but after getting the autopsy report back, Bollinger says it appears White set the fire. "Our theory was that they had conspired together to burn the home and that the killings were accidental,” Bollinger explained. He says White had burns on her arms and face consistent with setting a gasoline fire. White and her daughter died from smoke inhalation. Brown will serve 7 to 10 years in prison.
