Man with stolen gun leads police on foot chase during shots fired call

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police investigating reports of shots fired last night ended up chasing a man they say took off running with a stolen firearm after officers stopped a suspicious vehicle nearby.

The shots fired calls came in just after 10 p.m. near the Village at Greenfield community. That's where officers say they pulled over a suspicious vehicle before one of the passengers inside took off running.

When police were chasing the man, later identified as Marcus Williams, they noticed a gun in his hand. Officers found the gun nearby, which they discovered was stolen, but say Williams got away.

Police arrested the two other men in the car, Gregory Tyshaun Nixon and Jamal Goodman, and charged them each with possession of a schedule IV drug. WPD are still searching for Williams, who now faces charges on warrants for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm.
