WPD looking for duo after armed robberies reported minutes apart

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are searching for a duo they say attempted to rob a Wilmington convenience store minutes before getting away with cash at another just a few blocks away.

Wilmington Police say the first call came in around 2:30 a.m., reporting the robbery attempt at the Lucky Stop Food Mart at 6402 Market Street. That's where officers say the clerk told them a woman walked inside and asked if the store was open before getting back into a car parked outside.

Officers say a man walked in the store with a shirt wrapped around his head and hand, as if he had a weapon hidden, and demanded money from the clerk. Police say when the clerk refused to give the man money, he ran out of the store and took off.

A short time later, a call came in reporting an armed robbery just a few blocks away at the Kangaroo Express at 6480 Market Street. Officers say the clerk there told them a man matching the same description of the robber at the first store.

Police say the man demanded money, threatened that clerk, and then took off when he handed over the money. They say the robber jumped into the passenger-side of a car, matching the same descriptions as the first robbery reported.

WPD says the man is in his late 20s, and was wearing a long-sleeved dark shirt at the time of the robbery. They say the woman, who was driving a four-door, grey Subaru during both crimes, looks to be in her late 30s.

If you have any information on either suspect, call the Wilmington Police Department.
