17th Street Surf shop hosts third Shredfest Surf Contest

Carolina Beach, NC (WWAY)- Will Mceachern, the store manager of 17th street surf shop, says they had almost 100 entries into this year's annual Shredfest Surf Contest.

Mceachern says this event is fun, but competitive surfing is a big part of the surf industry.

He says they started with five division three years ago, but now they have seven.

These divisions include a boy's, junior's, and a men's group.

They have two female divisions for long board and short board, all ages.

They also have a men's long board division.

Finally, they have an open division. For this category the top four surfers receive $1000 cash.

The event lasted two days and increased in surfers compared to previous years.

Mceachern says they became apart of this contest, "because its a way to give back to the competitors that support us."
