HARKERS ISLAND, NC (AP) -- Officials at Cape Lookout National Seashore say they will close the area to the public in advance of Tropical Storm Arthur.
The National Park Service released a statement Tuesday saying the seashore would close to the public on Wednesday at 5 p.m., and remain closed until further notice. The park service said the closure was based on tracking data from the National Hurricane Center.
In addition, the park service has ordered ferry operations to evacuate visitors and vehicles by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Tropical Storm Arthur formed off the coast of Florida on Tuesday and is anticipated to move northward along the coast. Forecasters say intensification of the storm is expected as it moves along the coast.
On Friday, the storm is expected to be close to the Outer Banks.
