PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- For the second time in less than a week, the Pender County Commission has hired an interim county manager. Commissioners today agreed to hire Bob Murphy until a permanent manager is hired. Last week the commission appointed former county manager Rick Benton to serve as a temporary interim manger until a more permanent interim was appointed. Benton was to make $175 per hour. The county will pay Murphy, who starts tomorrow, $65 an hour. County leaders say Benton will continue to assist the county in a consulting role on a temporary basis. Murphy has thirty years of experience as a county and city manager, including 12 years as the Nash County manager and four years as the Carteret County manager. Murphy lives in Rocky Mount.
