BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Brunswick County judge is the 19th and final candidate to file to fill an open seat on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Marion Warren, a judge in the 13th Judicial District, which covers Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus counties, has filed for the seat that is empty after Chief Judge John Martin announced his retirement last month.
The NC Board of Elections said 19 candidates had filed for the seat by today's noon deadline. The race will be on the general election ballot Nov. 4.
Warren's name will be at the top of the ballot. Legislation that went into effect Wednesday mandates that ballot ordering in nonpartisan races will be by random selection. This year, candidates will appear on the ballot in reverse alphabetical order beginning with W.
Warren is the second judge from Brunswick County to announce a statewide campaign this year. Brunswick County Resident Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis is running for NC Supreme Court Chief Justice.
