GREENVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- Three former New Hanover Wildcat football players are currently on the East Carolina football team. Coincidentally, Trevon Brown, Jacen Murphy and DaQuan Barnes are all wide receivers for the ECU Pirates. Barnes is the only one of three to see game action so far. Tonight we get DaQuan's outlook on the upcoming ECU football season.
Daquan spent most of the summer in Greenville instead of Wilmington in order to prepare for the upcoming season. Barnes caught 9 passes last year for East Carolina. He also had one touchdown reception. Barnes is a hard worker. He's a team leader. He is lightning fast and all of that will help as the ECU Pirates transition from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference. "This is a bigger conference, which means you have bigger expectations. Which makes us play harder on the field, so we just basically preparing ourselves for the season by playing hard and training hard."
East Carolina will open the season on August 30th at home against North Carolina Central. Look for Daquan Barnes to get loads of playing time, as he tries to represent the Port City. "It feels good to represent my hometown. A lot of people back home look up to me seeing my do big things. I just want to continue to do big things and keep representing."
