Leland man killed in hunting accident

LELAND -- Family members say a freak deer hunting accident killed a 22-year-old Leland man. Justin Sellers's body was found Wednesday night in some woods in Winnabow. Family members say Sellers was lowering his gun from a tree stand when the rifle went off, firing a bullet through Sellers's heart. His father says he still supports hunting, but has some advice for other hunters out there. Chad Sellers said, "They need to take the North Carolina safety hunters course and it will teach you how to properly lower your gun to the ground. That's basically what happened is he didn't tie the gun off right." Chad Sellers says his son took the course and had been hunting since he was a child. His family is still unsure as to why sellers lowered the gun improperly.
