WILMINGTON -- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office has just received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money that they'll be putting to use in our community. $40,000 from the Office of Justice will go to hire an additional case manager for the gang task force. A $9,000 grant from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation will be used to purchase automatic electronic deliberators to be used by officers while on patrol. Another $250,000 from the Department of Homeland Security will buy improvised explosive device detection equipment, equipment for a helicopter and equipment for a boat to be housed at Carolina Beach Police Department. The department also got funds to purchase new bullet proof vests and fingerprinting equipment.
