Without Lowe, Wolfpack falters late

CHAPEL HILL (AP) -- Sidney Lowe wasn't around to see what North Carolina State could do against fifth-ranked North Carolina in the second half last night.

The first-year coach had been sick from flu-like symptoms in recent days. Before the second half started, Lowe was taken to a hospital because of dehydration and missed the second half.

With its leader gone, the Wolfpack faltered after the break, committing too many turnovers and struggling to hit needed shots in an 83-64 loss Wednesday night.

NC State's biggest problem was 12 second-half turnovers that helped the Tar Heels get out in transition to power their fast-paced attack. The Wolfpack shot 9-for-22 in the half (41 percent) and fell behind by as many as 21 points.
