Holiday help for the homeless

READ MORE: Holiday help for the homeless
The holiday season often inspires people to give back and that's exactly what one local organization is doing for the homeless. Every year, Inner City Ministries hosts their annual holiday party for the homeless, but after this year, they may have to find somewhere else to do their good deeds. Pastor Mel Smith and his wife, Linda have been dedicated to helping the homeless for the past fifteen years. The passion for helping the less fortunate led to them establishing Inner City Ministries, a mobile church which provides spiritual guidance and meals for homeless residents. He says, "a lot of people have lost hope and can't believe that they can do anything for themselves, our job is to encourage them and tell them, yes you can do something for yourself." For the past eight years, Inner City Ministries has hosted it's annual holiday party at the Coastline Convention Center in Wilmington. Members of the organization welcome hundreds off the streets and make them feel like members of society, but plans to remodel the Convention Center into a new facility, could leave the organization without a place to spread holiday cheer in the years to come. Pastor Smith is hopeful they'll find a new place to continue their worthy cause. "We'll be without a place but we'll find something and work on something, and maybe somebody will offer us a space for next year." Now volunteers just hope they'll have a location to do their good deeds next year.
